INSTRUCTIONAL ILLUSTRATIONS
Visualising Kinaesthetic Information
______
This project required us to illustrate an activity that involved a number of distinctive hidden forces such as kinaesthetic performances synchronising with tools, props, objects, built spaces e.t.c. to create an instructional graphic that keeps in mind instructional design principles, cognitive load theory, experiential learning theory, cultures and contexts, behaviours, actions, body language, product communication, visual and verbal literacy.

Drawing and visualisation aspects such as abstraction, line quality, emphasis, perspective and narrative and storytelling aspects such as language and communication, technical writing, word and image, call outs, icons and glyphs along with exploring photography and editing for framing, composition and using gestalts principles was used.
ACTIVITY
Roasting a roti involves the use of your middle and lower arm along with your wrist. The use of tongs are like the extension of your fingers. Overtime this activity becomes subsoncsious and you become aware of not just cooking of the roti and temperature but your body posture and the movements in space.

LEARNER PERSONA
A son/daughter who is novice to cooking and is learning how to make roti’s with their mother/fathers inthe kitchen.
Since making a round roti is a harder learning curve, this person is trying to learn how to roast the roti appropriately by learning how to hold, flip and rotate using tongs.

EXPERT PERSONA
A parent who knows how to make roti’s.

ACTIVITY
Inserting a lace/drawstring in a cloth is a task that requires an understanding of a technique. While it is a simple 5 min activity, it is often frustrating when the lace gets stuck midway or gets out of the tool. Slight forces in the fingers, a good grip and control of hands can ensure the activity to run smoothly.

LEARNER PERSONA
Any person who has experienced frustration while putting a drawstring in a cloth.

EXPERT PERSONA
An experienced individual trying to teach a technique to get a good grip and control over the tool being inserted.
